Create a Familiar Sleep Environment for Your Child on Holiday
Holidays are supposed to be relaxing! But if you have a toddler who keeps waking up in the night, disrupting everybody’s sleep, then it’s no surprise if tempers get a little frayed the following day. Recreating a familiar sleep environment in your holiday home can help reassure the half-awake child that everything is okay and there is no need to go and seek comfort from a parent.
The Bedroom Environment
If your child has a favourite soft toy or blanket that they always take to bed at home, then it’s a no-brainer to squeeze this comforter in the family suitcase before you set off. But what about the bed environment itself? Bringing a bulky duvet and sheet set is going to take up a lot of room in the car, and be completely unfeasible on an aeroplane.
Transferability was a key design feature of the Snuggle Sac from the start. We wanted to create a cosy, desirable bedroom environment that could be rolled up and relocated in a holiday home, at the grandparents’ house, or at sleepovers. A Snuggle Sac is light and squashy and comes in its own carry-bag.
Familiarity in the Holiday Home
Encouraging a child to use their Snuggle Sac at home (in our experience it doesn’t take much encouragement – as kids love them!) creates a strong sleep association with the item. This really comes into its own in what might otherwise be an unfamiliar environment. Instead of waking in the night with a startled, “Where am I?”, the child immediately recognises items associated with sleep and (in many cases) this will be sufficient for them to return to the land of Nod.
A good night’s sleep for the whole family will keep stress levels to a minimum and allow everyone to relax and enjoy their holiday!
